Canongate Books is one of the UK’s leading independent publishers: B Corp certified; shortlisted for
both Publisher of the Year and Independent Publisher of the Year at this year’s British Book Awards;
and known for our award-winning campaigns, collaborative approach and focus on author care. We’re
looking for a talented publicist to join the Campaigns team for a year-long maternity contract.
Our ideal candidate will have strong experience running high level publicity campaigns, an in depth
understanding of the UK media landscape – including print, broadcast, podcast and online – and
confidence running a wide variety of events. Management experience is helpful but not a requirement.
Responsibilities will include:
- Working independently and as part of a team to implement innovative campaigns across a small
but diverse list of titles - Pitching and responding to opportunities across print, broadcast and online media, and
maintaining effective links with media and trade partners - Working closely with the editorial team, agents and authors to ensure strong relationships are
developed, and authors are fully supported - Organising and implementing events countrywide
- Taking an active role in running the company’s digital channels
- Contributing to the decision-making process around acquisitions
The role can be based in either our Edinburgh or London office. It is a full-time role reporting to the
Acting Publicity Director, though candidates interested in 4 days a week will also be considered.
Salary: from £41,000pa, depending on location, experience and number of days.
