Chicken House is a small, highly individual children’s book publishing company, home of bestselling authors Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Cornelia Funke and Maz Evans. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly creative people person to join our team as Publicity & Marketing Officer in our small and busy office in Frome.
The ideal candidate will already have proven experience working in a PR, marketing, or digital media-adjacent role. They will have good working knowledge of social media and other digital marketing platforms, as well as having demonstrable creativity and tons of enthusiasm and ideas. You will be confident communicating with authors, comfortable in front of a camera, and with excellent communication skills.
This will be a full-time, hybrid role in our office in Frome, within commutable distance of Bristol and Bath. Please note this is not an entry-level role. We are willing to consider both full-time and part-time working; please state your preference when applying.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the Head of PR and Marketing in all areas of publicity and marketing
- Planning and executing campaigns, both middle-grade and YA
- Creating and scheduling content for Chicken House’s social media platforms, newsletters and website
- Helping to arrange author events and festival appearances, and attending events where necessary
- Organising review and trade mailings
- Filing and collating campaign coverage
- Preparing materials for presentations
Essential skills
- At least one year working in a PR, marketing, or digital media-adjacent role
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and a strong copy-writing ability
- Experience managing social media
- Excellent attention to detail, an analytical mind and a very high level of organisation
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Canva and preferably Adobe suite
Desired but not essential
- Knowledge of marketing and design programmes/sites such as PhotoShop, InDesign, WordPress and MailChimp
- Video-editing and photography skills
- Experience of SEO practices and Google Analytics
- Knowledge of GDPR practices
